Trying to kick....
Drinking bathtubs of carbonated, caffinated soda in the morning and at 5 o'clock pm dulling it with equal amounts of beer. I came to the point that it's all got to stop today...it has too.For my family, for my health.Today is the first day since 1977 that I have not had a Coke or Pepsi .I am freaking out.I want all that shit out of my system but am having a hard time.Any GIMers gone through something like this ? Thanks and no haters please.:smokin:

I've got a blender a drink lots of smoothies with frozen fruit, frozen yoghurt and either juice or milk. mm mm good luck and don't fail at all otherwise you might never be able to break it. remember we breathe out CO2 for a reason. |
Re: Trying to kick....
Started drinking some green tea today and found it refreshing.

I really like the biglow black tea from Sams. Very strong, no bitter aftertaste. Good luck, soda is a hard habit to break. |

Re: Trying to kick....
Yeah, I agree... pull out the blender and get some ice, fruit, and yogurt. Experiment with combinations of the three. I've even gone mostly ice and just enough fruit for flavor for a low cal drink. Guzzle this and it may help.
I imagine if you add some sugar free carbonated water it may help your pop withdrawal. PS: congrats for kicking soda... that sh*t'll kill ya. |

Re: Trying to kick....
You'll need quite a macho blender to properly grind the ice. The ice part properly done is what make the drink refreshing imo. Also, investing in a macho blender commits you to using it... :D

Re: Trying to kick....
Doesn't tea have more caffeine than coffee? Or is green tea different?
Good move, PB. Stick with it. |

The black tea I drink is loaded, green tea has very little to no caffeine. But I justify it because it is natural caffeine, as opposed to the crap they put in sodas. |
Re: Trying to kick....
Yeah smoothies are good stuff. A simple smoothie can be just OJ, a banana, & yogurt. Maybe some ice cubes to make it colder. But in loo of ice cubes I started freezing certain fruits which will otherwise go bad before I can eat them. Peel bananas when they're perfect, roll them up in plastic wrap, & freeze. Costco sells big bags of frozen strawberries, they've already got the tops cut off them. They also sell these frozen bags of a 3 berry mix, raspberries, blueberries, & marionberries. They sell flats of peaches, perhaps 14, and I cut them in half when they're ripe, toss out the pit, & cut them into quarters, and freeze all the quarters in a bag. I just quarter them so the blender can blend the frozen quarters easier. Costco sells plain yogurt by the half-gallon container. Occasionally I even put in cantaloupe, & sometimes an egg white for more protein.

Now you likely can't go wrong with almost any fruit, but the mangosteen is supposed to be one of the most healthy out there and is full of antioxidants. If you live near an asian grocer maybe try adding some (in addition to familiar fruits) to your smoothie. After peeling it looks like an albino orange. And regarding your blender: AAArgh AAArgh!!! |
Re: Trying to kick....
Poorboy you might try chocolate for caffine if you are having a hard time. Good luck, it isnt easy.

Re: Trying to kick....
I can sympathize. I drink several 16 oz Dr. Peppers per day, actually I've cut back to as few as two but if I'm not watching I can down a 6-pack of them easy. I usually go to bed with one on my nightstand.
I also drink a pot of coffee per day too. When I eat out I drink unsweetened tea. Caffeine is my downfall, as I very rarely drink any alcohol. I know it would do me good to quit the soda, but I'm one of the lucky metabolizers who can stay lean and it doesn't seem to cause me any problems health wise. Good luck kicking the habit! |
Re: Trying to kick....
Thanks to all of you, I am having a hard night tonight....I'm ripping out alot of old addictions and my body is strugggling along with the new program..both alchohol and caffein have GOT TO GO !!!!!!

All this smoothie talk got to me. Made an El Macho Grande blueberry/cranberry/yogurt smoothie. Lotsa ice. Wife even whined about the noise. Bonus. :D

Re: Trying to kick....
Hope you stay with it.
Tired of hearing about people that are gonna change the world, yet continue to engage in behavior that not only weakens the individual , but feeds the beast. It isn't hard man, get your head around it. Good luck. Joined a Ron Paul group. They met at Arby's for lunch every time. Attnded a single meeting ,told them my thoughts, -- they still met at Arby's for "lunch". I have no use for them. There's stuff you either "get", or you don't. There was a golfer, one of the greats. A man Tiger woods still needs to catch in many record books. No , Not Jack. Sam Snead. They used to make fun of his swing and his unorthodox grip etc. They'd askd him who was his teacher, his pro. He told them"'ll have found a "teacher" when I found someone that could beat me>" Those who don't live it, shouldn't teach it. |

You'll excuse if I didn't read no farther then? Thanks, I'm a hillbilly. Seriously man ,what are you here for? I don't mean to single you out, bunch o posters like yourself. What do you want , a magic pill? You can;t refrain from behavior that is obviously destructive, that feeds a massive corpora-government profit play? WTF you want from me, from GIM? There ain't no salvation by bearing your sins here man. Change yourself and spend less time punching computer keys. |

As far as kicking any habit, you have to keep a positive attitude and strong frame of mind. Instead of looking at the situation as giving up something (not saying you are, but as an example), think of it as every time and everyday you don't indulge in your previous habit, you are taking care of yourself and making yourself stronger...and you get stronger everyday that you stick to your plan. Never let a substance dominate your will. Be your own master and use this opportunity to put things in the direction you desire. Don't let up, and if you slip, start right back getting it right. Best of luck. |

Re: Trying to kick....
congrats on the decision to kick the habit. I stopped drinking soda for a while and it was great. for me, I just get UNSWEETENED iced tea if I'm eating out, and otherwise I drink black coffee with lowfat milk, no sugar.
It's tough but just imagine all the chemicals from that soda you were drinking. |
Re: Trying to kick....
Best of luck PB... we all have our struggles. My addiction is smoking. I am currently not- but would give a nut for one.
Later. |

Hey , here' s the payoff too. Never mind how good your gonna feel in a week or so, (really months til you wash that shit out your system), but hey the payoff, as it should be - wake up tomoroow man and flip them the bird. "you don't ****in own me, you and your crappy poisonous product. I'm free of you." This is real man, not an attempt on your part. Picture little fat pig-men counting their money as you sicken yourself on their poison. Counting out little fat pig dollars and betting you fail. picture a face, a little sweaty pig face, counting your money as his own-------and then never ever go back. You are the man you state here that you are.. Don't forget that |
